What's the difference between a Homey Flow and Homey Advanced Flow?See FAQ answer

After setting up a Homey smart network for a smart home or business, you can create a Flow; this is an easily customisable routine that can involve any device currently connected to your Homey hub.

A Homey Flow is included with either hub; however a more detailed Advanced Flow requires either a Homey subcription, available for £3 per user per month, or a Homey Pro which includes all the features of a Homey subscription in the one-time cost of the device.

What is Homey Flow?See FAQ answer

Homey Flow is Homey's Smart Device automation engine. It allows users to create intuitive, custom smart home routines involving anything from a single connected smart device to a wide range of smart home devices - even if they're from different brands, or use different connectivity protocols.

This is achieved using a simple drag and drop "When... And... Then..." logic - all without any coding required.

Example 1:

  • When I get home
  • And It's after 19:00
  • Then turn on the hallway lights and play Spotify.

Example 2:

  • When the last person leaves the house
  • And it's a weekday
  • Then turn off all lights and heating.

You can use Flows to automate lights, heating, security, music, blinds, energy management, and more across all your smart home devices - regardless of brand!

Can Homey track both energy consumption and solar production?See FAQ answer

Yes! Homey can offer real-time insights into energy usage and energy production. Because the Homey Bridge and Homey Pro are so broadly compatible with so many different smart devices and manufacturers, a Homey installation can easily track the energy usage of a smart home or business, as well as the power production of sustainable energy resources like solar panels and wind turbines.

Energy usage of each individual device can be gauged at a glance by using the Homey Energy dongle, and checking the energy usage of your Homey installation in the Energy tab of the free Homey app.

Alternatively, for a birds-eye view of your energy consumption and production across a whole installation across a longer period, Homey can easily adopt dedicated energy-monitoring smart devices from other manufacturers like the Shelly Pro 3EM 120A, Qubino 3-Phase Smart Meter, and a huge range of other devices.

Is Homey compatible with Alexa or Google Home UK?See FAQ answer

Yes!

Because Homey includes a built-in WiFi chip, it can easily connect to and integrate wirelessly with both Alexa and Google home; this means that, once either Alexa or Google Home is successfully integrated with your Homey hub, you can control any connected smart device or Homey Advanced Flow automation with voice controls.

Connecting your Homey with Alexa or Google home is quick and easy:

Alexa: Ensure your Amazon Alexa is connected to the internet. Open up the Alexa app on your smartphone, navigate to Smart Home in the menu, and select Your Smart Home Skills > Enable smart home skills > search for Homey > Enable skill. Then, just enter your Homey details to give Alexa access to Homey, and press 'Discover Devices' for your Alexa to discover your Homey smart hub.

Google Home: In the Google Home mobile app, select 'Add (+)' > Set Up Device > Works with Google. Select Homey in the list of brands, and simply log in with your Homey credentials and follow the instructions on the screen.

You'll now be able to use voice commands to control anything from a single connected device to a synchronised Advanced Flow - a co-ordinated, customisable scene involving multiple devices all working in harmony.
