How can I get an internet connection on my Unifi Security Gateway?

Getting an internet connection on the Unifi Security Gateway (USG) is very simple!

The USG is automatically set to DHCP, so if you're on a Virgin media or Fibre connection you should just need to plug in the USG and it'll pick up the internet straight away.

If you're using a 3rd party modem such as the one given to you by your ISP (Internet Service Provider), you'll need to enter the PPPoE settings given to you by your ISP. You can usually request these if you don't have them by getting in touch with their customer support.

1. To configure the PPPoE settings on your USG, plug it into your modem in the WAN 1 port via a Cat5e/Cat6 cable. You'll then need to connect your laptop to the USG via a second Cat5e/Cat6 cable, plugged into the LAN 1 port of the USG.

2. Then go in to your browser, and navigate to the IP address of the USG which by default will be 192.168.1.1

3. You'll be greeted with the following screen, simply select PPPoE from the Connection Type dropdown menu and input your PPPoE settings, and you should get an internet connection!

4. You'll then be able to go to the Ubiquiti Site to download the Unifi Controller, it's cloud management, or you can use a Cloud Key. You'll see the USG appear under the Devices tab, where you can click adopt to adopt it to the controller.
