What is the difference between an official Homey App and a community one?
Official Homey Apps are developed and maintained by Homey themselves; these have been tested and verified to work with the latest firmware by Homey's in-house engineers. They are also eligible for technical support, ensuring stability and a user friendly experience.
In contrast, community Apps are developed independently by enthusiasts and developers from the community; these are commonly for Niche smart devices, less common brands, more advanced features and experimental tools.
While the reliability and build-quality of these community-developed apps is generally still very high, support is community driven, and updates may be less frequent. As such, these apps are susceptible to breaking with firmware updates if not actively maintained.
