Why do Shelly devices have Bluetooth built-in?

As well as being WiFi enabled, some Shelly devices like the Shelly Plus 1 also feature built-in Bluetooth. This is because of the extremely low battery usage profile, meaning that any internal batteries can last for years before needing to be changed.

 

 

Bluetooth is also generally more responsive than WiFi as, to save battery, WiFi devices tend to sleep in between use and need to wake when prompted, leading to a short delay. With the battery usage being so low, there’s no need for the device to enter sleep mode when using Bluetooth, making them instantly responsive.
