Quick Summary

Provide power to PoE enabled devices such as IP phones, wireless access points and IP cameras with Draytek's new P2280x switch.

The band new DrayTek VigorSwitch P2280x is a 10-Gigabit, high-performance, fully managed Gigabit Ethernet switch with four 10Gb SFP+ ports and 24Gb PoE+ that can be managed locally or centrally.

Power over Ethernet

The Draytek VigorSwitch P2280x is a PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch, that will provide power to any PoE-enabled device, most commonly IP phones, wireless access points or IP cameras over the Ethernet cable. The P2280x supports both standard PoE (802.3af) and High-Power PoE (802.3at) devices.

Power is provided only when required and allows for installation of devices where there is no mains power, which would be useful for wireless access points such as the ceiling mountable VAP910C access point. As well as removing the need for local (at the desk) power supplies, PoE ensures power efficiency, providing only the power needed.

10GbE SFP+ Ports for High Speed Uplinks

The DrayTek VigorSwitch P2280x has 4 dedicated SFP+ ports for uplinks, each operating at up to 10 Gigabits per second. The faster 10 Gigabit uplink capability allows you to make high bandwidth links to Network Attached Storage, Servers and other switches, to help reduce the risk of bottlenecks occurring within your network. The SFP+ ports provide compatibility with your choice of SFP / SFP+ modules.

Routing Features

The VigorSwitch P2280x provides connectivity for multiple network segments with 802.1Q VLAN tags, which separate networks at Layer 2 (MAC level), relying on the router to connect different networks. In addition, VigorSwitch P2280x has Layer 3 features such as VLAN Routing and Static Routes.

The VLAN routing in the switch allows for Layer 3 (IP level) routing. This allows connection and routing between different IP subnets with wire speed routing performance.

Routing beyond the VigorSwitch P2280x, to the Internet and across VPNs is possible with Static Routes, using the switch to direct traffic to remote subnets through the correct gateway. Up to 512 static routes can be configured on the switch.

Quality of Service (QoS) and Bandwidth Control

Prioritise latency-sensitive applications on your network with Quality of Service (802.1p and DSCP) support. Auto Voice VLAN allows the switch to automatically assign VoIP devices to a separate VLAN and prioritise their traffic. You can control throughput per-port with Rate Limiting and application specific Traffic Shaping.
